DOES TRUTH MATTER?  PART II

When truth begins to die, the slow-rotting corpse smells like a tote sack of dead fish.  Washington exudes the stench and fouls our nostrils of reason.  To add insult to truth’s death, the media has taken to painting by the numbers instead of giving us diligent canvases of honest journalism.  One of the biggest casualties of truth is the notion that America is controlled by the “liberal press.”  Not.  This repetitive lie is told by those who own the media, Bushite barons who want us to believe that Fox News is fair and balanced and that Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes really do present both sides of the issues while the so-called “liberal press” seeks to lead America to socialism.  Herman Goering would have been proud of the repetition.

Truth is everywhere.  But can we see it?  If we can, do we care?  Does truth matter to us?  If the president were not a scoundrel and a crook, he would defend and protect the Constitution, as he swore a solemn oath to do, right?  So what’s Bush afraid of?   Why does he wring his hands like Oil Can Harry and beg for immunity for these communication companies who turned over our phone records to his Dobermans at the NSA?  Why so much fuss about immunity?  Is there another Bush secret agenda we don’t know about?  Why not let the legal system work and let the White House butt out?  Ain’t it high time that Bush started pardoning innocent people and companies instead of continuing to excuse and protect the guilty who break the laws that enable Bush to screw the American people and secret CIA operatives like Valerie Plame?  Doesn’t it seem that compliant phone company accomplices are expressing Bush’s lizard brain belief that the Constitution is “just a goddamned piece of paper?”   Is the truth so hard to take that Bush needs Congress to bless his crimes with proclamations of retroactive immunity for crimes Bush and his kind already committed?  Will the crimes just go away?  Do we truly believe that Big Brother can rewrite history and make the truth go away?  Will the unlawful gathering of data files on innocent Americans go forever unpunished?  Will immunity make the sins of Bush and his accomplices vanish like Bush’s Texas Air Guard attendance records?  Will granting immunity erase other truths such as the record of Bush being picked up for DWI by the Kennebunkport Police Department several years ago?

Bush accuses and chides the Democrats for earmarks and big spending programs.  I tell you the guy’s got more bile than a Sperm Whale liver.  He says Democrats spend too much on pork, and he is determined to veto such extravagance.  But do the math.  Since he’s been president, his budgets have gone over the top and added another 2 Trillion dollars to the National Debt.  To make matters worse he gives back 1.6 Trillion dollars in tax cuts to the richest Americans who stick it in the Cayman Islands Offshore National Bank or overseas in building factories in China that cause the ones in Cleveland to shut down.  The money Bush has borrowed worries conservatives, too (if they haven’t gone extinct, yet).  Enter truth.  Consider:  How corrupt is Bush when he hands Eric Prince a billion dollars for Blackwater contractor services for Bush’s illegal, private war in Iraq and then vetoes the Democrats’ bill attempting to increase SCHIPS healthcare benefits for underprivileged children here at home?  Truth.  Ah, truth.

Newsweek, October 8, 2007 talks about Giuliani/Mukasey/Kerik connections.  Mob connections, Mukasey’s son working for Giuliani’s law firm, Kerik, Giuliani’s former NYC Police Chief being investigated for federal corruption charges; all these suspicious facts just hammer the truth. Don’t we deserve better than that to keep getting pelted with questionable nominees like Mukasey or Bush’s nominating Kerik to head Homeland Security?  Will Mukasey’s first act in office be to recuse himself from prosecuting Kerik?

Before Bush took Iraq, he and Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations began dividing up the billions of dollars of Iraq’s wealth.  Saudi Arabia got billions in reparation for Saddam’s invasion of Kuwait years before.   The Saudis claimed much of the spoils as legitimate debt owed them, as well.  Truth is that the lions of oil fed in frenzy on the carcass of Iraq to the tune of over 300 billion dollars of spoils.

In addition to Bush's unfettered misuse of a "sovereign nation" (Iraq), little or no control of the Iraqi oil deposits was to be ceded to the new government of Iraq.  According to The Nation, October 8 2007, a plan for Iraqi oil emerged under the guidance of Amy Myers Jaffe of the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University. “It recommended maintaining the state-owned Iraq National Oil Company, whose origins dated back to 1961--but open it up to foreign investment after an initial period in which U.S.-approved Iraqi managers would supervise the rehabilitation of the war-damaged oil infrastructure. The existence of this group would come to light in a report by the Wall Street Journal on March 3, 2003.”  The oil spoils would now be in the hands of Exxon, Chevron, Royal Dutch Shell, you know the crowd.  Could all this be true?  These big oil companies made record profits for the last few years.  How did that happen?  Listen now for the other shoe to drop.....they withheld pumping the oil because a new rush of crude on the market would surely make the price at the pump go down.  The oil companies made out like bandits.  Guess who got robbed?   No need for new oil exploration.  No need to hire more workers or build new refineries.  And they, like Bush, can say that the terrists keep blowing up the pipelines which prevents them from pumping.  Maybe even the Environmentalists who want to keep us from drilling in Alaska have a hand in it, too.  By not drilling you get to blame the liberals for saving the Spotted Owl at the cost of jobs when the real impetus is TO KEEP NEW CRUDE OFF THE MARKET SO THE PRICE AT THE PUMP WILL SOAR AND BIG OIL CAN MAKE RECORD PROFITS WITHOUT LIFTING A FINGER OR SPENDING A DIME.  Them terrists have been the best danged partner in helping the corporate pigs hep themselves since Rove hepped an idiot get to sit in the Oval and start oil wars and destroy the Constitution.  Twice.  Without even a whimper.  Dying is easy; truth is hard.

Say you wanted to create a booming world economy where arms and bullets flourished and mercenaries were paid 10 times the price of real soldiers and real armies.  What do you do?  First, you start a war.  To increase profits, start several wars/insurgencies 'round the world.  Keep the plates spinning.  Suicide bombings here, there, and everywhere fuel the fire.  Scare up the oil-rich Arabs with rumors of terrorists so that they will pay through the nose for intelligence from private sources to keep their oil refineries safe.  Hire a bunch of former intelligence officers from the CIA who know how to steal data and where it is and who has it.  Then you play the terrorists against the nations who fear them and are willing to pay for "protection" as in the days of Al Capone.  Business is always good, and you always win.  If a certain area is not paying "protection" bucks what do you do?  Well what did Al Capone do?  A grocery store blew up or a hardware store burned down.  So businesses protected themselves by paying Al Capone to protect them from Al Capone.  Life was good then for the crooks.  But today’s have-gun-will-travel market is more lucrative.  It’s like Al Capone and Eliot Ness have joined forces to rob everybody of all they have.

So enter the 21st Century, and bingo, “protection" is big business, worldwide.  Instead of merchants in Chicago, nations of the world are the new customers (suckers).  These rich oil nations pay big bucks for protection.  Comes now Blackwater, a fine-tuned, large intelligence/protection organization, spreading its tentacles to the four corners of the earth.  What if the terrorists and the heads of state and protection companies were like the wrestling game?  You know, where each opponent conspires to give the crowd an emotional reaction where one wins and the other loses for a while, and then the tide turns and the other wins?  And the wrestlers go out together for drinks afterwards?  I can just hear the dialogue where a Milo Minderbinder-type character sets the terrorists against a country, say Albania, shooting up the countryside, killing, looting as Milo waits for the phone to ring in his US secret underground corporate headquarters of a company named, say, Muddywater.  It rings.  It's the president of Albania, begging for Muddywater protection services at any cost.  Just so happens that Milo is top-heavy in secret operatives in Rome at the time (what a coincidence to be so close to Albania; give those terrorist bombers who scared up the Albanians a bonus).  So the Muddywater operatives fly their hi-tech 'copters over to Albania and rout the terrorists. Milo is paid a few hundred million Euro dollars (not US dollars, get it?), and everybody wins.  The phone rings again.  Milo tells his aide that the King of Saudi Arabia reports bombings just miles of the palace.  "What do we have to offer them that's close by?  Nothing?  Then deploy from North Carolina at twice the rate, etc.  They can stand it."  You get the dialogue.  So then the aide says they are already committed to Lebanon for the upcoming quarter.  Milo says to drop Lebanon like a shoe because (drum roll) ”Who got de money?  And who don't?"  The aide smiles, knowingly.  "But hire some more CIA rejects off the street and we will do Lebanon, too, just tell them we might be a few days late.  Besides, who else they gonna call?"

Milo shuffles some papers on his desk.  "New subject." he says to his aide.  "We need some pesos.  Who you got in Mexico, just some poor rebels who think they got a cause, right?  Send some of our men down with some C4.  Blow up a Mayan pyramid or two, you know the old ones.  Make it Chichen Itza, the big pyramid.  All the tourists have felt safe in the Yucatan for too long.......they think it's a safe haven there, and we will show them different.  The government of Mexico gets a billion dollars a day from taxes collected on tourism.  Chichen Itza, the big one.  Yeah.  Have them take out a cenote or two for good measure, you know, where the tourists swim and play?  That will get the phones ringing."

Wow.  Think of the protection bucks.  Think of the enormity of such a world scheme.  And if we follow Rumsfeld's "snowflake" memos and "Keep the terror alert elevated."  How can we lose?  Nobody can prove that terrorism is a Hollywood-staged production.  It's real.  It’s a cinch.  Life is good in the wrestling game and even better in the terrorist/oil bidness.  Everybody wins.  But then this scenario is only make-believe.  Just like wrestling.  Truth is; it’s only fiction.  Thank goodness for the truth.
