Dr. Jonas, I just wanted to let you know that I did a small riff on your very interesting Joe Lieberman Buzz Flash article.  It certainly could explain the otherwise inexplicable vote of the Dems.  I enjoy your work.

Re: Steve Jonas' The Politics of Fear, Part 2: I think we should be less involved with this subject because we risk a big setback in our credibility should there be a third terrorist attack on us. The right wing would then be able to accuse us as being less concerned with the country's safety and more with just attacking the administration. We should concentrate on how Bush-Cheney et. al. have been derelict in securing us from attack, e.g. lack of port shipments safety, straining our defensive military capability by our involvement in Iraq, etc.

Great input.  Now, tell us how we push our points to the great mass of people having exactly and precisely no megaphones, and through many misdeeds and mistakes, allowing the construction of a rightwing communications cartel (went on full tilt under that SOB Clinton) which controls all of the public media, from which the public gets its propaganda.  We have to develop a set of megaphones, really loud ones, on the left and at some point kill the right wing ones (I have not heard the term anti-trust in 10 years or so).  The Internet is the part in which we on the left can express ourselves, but the targets for our comments are far too few.  So, for anyone who wants to unravel this knot the Dems have allowed and the corporate sector pushes, gonna take some real thinking.  But, if this issue is not addressed, we may just lose again, snatching defeat once again from the jaws of victory.

Great post on Them Dems, [HEARTS AND MINDS] regarding Congress' responsibility, Section 8 of Article I of the Constitution, includes this among Congress' powers: To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years.

It's clear that Congress' responsibility to provide oversight on military affairs.  I like the Constitution's text.
