                        SUPPORT A REPUBLICAN

There comes a time when a Democrat should be defeated.  State Supreme Court candidate Rachel Hunter is running in a non-partisan election the seat currently held by Justice Mark Martin, a Republican.

Hunter, a former Republican running as a Democrat, used the Nazi title "Dur Fuhrer” recently in referring to Jerry Meek, the Democratic Party Chairman. Not to spare her sordid diatribe, Hunter referred to Vernon Robinson, who is Black and who is extreme in his own right, as “[l]ike a good slave, he has returned to the plantation.”

Hunter’s comments demonstrate she is unfit to command a seat on the seat on the State Supreme Court, or any other office.

TPJ urges all its readers to vote for a Republican in this race – Justice Mark Martin.

                        BUSH’S ECONOMY

Bush’s economy continues to take its toll.

Broyhill Furniture Industries said Monday it will close a plant in Lenoir, shedding nearly 700 jobs in a region reeling from the loss of thousands of manufacturing jobs in recent years.

The company blamed the layoffs on increased competition from furniture manufacturers who have moved overseas for cheaper labor. Broyhill will still employ 1,900 workers after the August closing, company spokesman Tom Lentz said.

"Case goods have been going offshore for a long period of time. I think everyone knew it was a matter of time before this plant would close, but it's always a shock to people working there," said David Horn, board chairman of the Caldwell County Chamber of Commerce.

The cuts are just the latest in a series of rollbacks for Broyhill, one of the nation's most recognized furniture lines. The company has closed nine plants and one supply facility in North Carolina since 2001, displacing about 4,500 workers, Lentz said. Five of those plant closings occurred in the last 18 months, leaving the company with three manufacturing plants and three supply sites.

Democrats are working hard to off set the losses

The Flanders Corp. will open a plant in Clarkton in Bladen County and create 150 new jobs. The company, which makes air filtration products, will invest $7.8 million over the next three years, according to a report released by Gov. Mike Easley's office.

The state awarded the company a One North Carolina Fund Grant of $225,000.

APG-Meridian will open a plant in Richmond County, creating 70 jobs and investing $2.5 million over the next three years.

The announcement was made possible in part by a $60,000 One North Carolina Fund grant, according to Gov. Mike Easley.

"APG-Meridian's decision to open a plant in North Carolina is a testament to our No. 1 ranked business climate," Easley said. "We will continue to make the right investments in workforce development, education and infrastructure so that we can continue to succeed in today's global economy."

APG-Meridian is a maker of aluminum fences, gates and railings and is headquartered in Pompano Beach, Fla.

It is a record that Democrats can and should run on in the upcoming mid-term elections.
