“Connections”
The parallels between the Bushies and the Nazi propaganda machine are truly frightening. I know full well that bringing this comparison invites ridiculeas a knee-jerk reaction but if you examine the facts the parallels are clear.
1) Tell the big lie, repeat it
over and over and over till it is accepted as truth, i.e. WMD in Iraq, flip
flopper, on and on. (Goebbels = Rove.)
2) Create a phony excuse to invade another country for political and
personal gain. (Sudetenland, Poland et. al. = Iraq.)
3) Question the loyalty and patriotism of all those who dare to oppose your policies or speak the truth. (Joseph Wilson and yellow cake from Niger.)
4) Find a scapegoat for failed economy. (911, Al Qaeda = Jews, gypsies etc.)
5) Promote your political hacks on the basis of loyalty, not competence. (Goering = Mike Brown (a stretch I know)).
This is off the top of my head but I see can see it happening all the time. The article by Dr. Jonas prompted me to write this feedback, maybe someone can run with it.
_____
Junkie: Richard Ryan is responding to Dr. Steven Jonas’ series on Katrina and its aftermath. Part two of that series remains posted and is a must read.
Dr. Jonas provides this addendum to Ryan’s analogies. “[F]or the Christian Right, if not (yet) for the Georgites as a whole, the equivalent of the Jews/Gypsies as being responsible for everything that is wrong with the country as they see it are the gays, who just happened to be Hitler's first target for persecution once he took power, even before the Jews.

“A Song”
I've been listening to CNN. Pretty scary. We have a peace march in Wichita[, Kansas] tomorrow. I think I'll print up some songs. How's this for a start.
Old folks drowning in the
City of New Orleans.
Burned alive in a Houston, Texas bus.
Halliburton's got its sole source contracts.
Dubya can't figure why there's all the fuss.
Good morning FEMA, . . . how
are you?
Stop help and supplies offered by the ton.
You're the pain felt by the City of New Orleans.
You'll be back in D.C. 'fore the day is done.
